Why Keep Updated?

Updates fix security vulnerabilities, bugs, and compatibility issues. Outdated WordPress software is the most common cause of hacked websites.

Updating WordPress Core

  1. Log in to WordPress Admin.
  2. Go to Dashboard → Updates.
  3. If an update is available, click Update Now.

Updating Plugins

  1. Go to Dashboard → Updates.
  2. Select all plugins with updates available.
  3. Click Update Plugins.

Before Major Updates

  • Take a full backup first (files + database).
  • Test updates on a staging site if possible.
  • Read the update changelog for breaking changes.

Automatic Updates

WordPress supports automatic updates for minor versions (e.g. 6.5.1 to 6.5.2). You can enable automatic plugin updates in Plugins → Installed Plugins by clicking "Enable auto-updates" next to each plugin.
