Common Error Messages

  • "Authentication failed" or "Invalid credentials"
  • "Username and password not accepted"
  • "Connection timed out"

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check username: Make sure you are using the full email address (e.g. you@yourdomain.com), not just the username part.
  2. Check password: Try logging in to webmail with the same credentials to verify the password is correct. If webmail fails too, reset the password in DirectAdmin.
  3. Check server settings: Verify the incoming and outgoing server addresses and ports match the values in the Email Clients guides.
  4. Check SSL settings: Make sure you are using SSL/TLS on port 993 for IMAP and STARTTLS on port 587 for SMTP.
  5. Firewall: Some ISPs block port 25. Use port 587 for sending mail.
