Running out of disk space can cause your website to go offline, email delivery to fail, and databases to become corrupt. Monitor your disk usage regularly.
Checking Disk Usage in DirectAdmin
- Log in to DirectAdmin.
- The disk usage meter is visible on the main dashboard.
- For a breakdown by folder, click Statistics → Disk Usage.
Common Disk Hogs
- Email: Large mailboxes with years of old email and attachments.
- Backups: Old backup archives stored in your home directory.
- WordPress uploads: Unoptimised images accumulate quickly.
- Log files: High-traffic sites generate large log files.
Freeing Up Space
- Delete old backup archives.
- Clean up the email spam and trash folders.
- Compress or delete large log files.
- Optimise and deduplicate media with a WordPress plugin.
